POST-PROCEDURE CARE & PRESERVATION

1. PROTECTIVE BARRIER (Medical-Grade Bandage)

Your tattoo has been sealed with a breathable, waterproof, medical-grade adhesive bandage (such as Second Skin or Derm Shield). This barrier protects your open skin from bacteria and friction during the most critical stage of healing.

  • Duration: Keep this bandage on for 3 to 4 days, depending on fluid accumulation.
  • Observation: It is normal to see a dark mixture of ink, plasma, and blood trapped under the film. This is your body’s natural regeneration process.
  • Removal: If the film begins to lift, causes significant skin irritation, or leaks fluid, remove it gently under lukewarm running water earlier than scheduled.

2. REMOVAL & CLEANSING PROTOCOL

When it is time to remove the bandage, do so in the shower under lukewarm running water. Do not pull the bandage upward like a Band-Aid; instead, stretch the film parallel to your skin to release the adhesive gently.

  • Washing: Use only your clean hands and a fragrance-free, antibacterial liquid soap. Gently wash away any adhesive residue, plasma, or dried ink.
  • Avoid: Do not use washcloths, loofahs, or sponges, as they harbor bacteria and are too abrasive for the new ink.
  • Drying: Pat the area dry with a clean, disposable paper towel. Allow the skin to air-dry for 10–15 minutes before applying any product.

3. HYDRATION & RECOVERY PHASE

Once the skin is dry, apply an extremely thin layer of a professional aftercare ointment or a fragrance-free, dye-free lotion (such as Lubriderm or Aveeno).

  • Frequency: Repeat the wash-and-moisturize cycle 3 times per day for the next 14 days.
  • Note: The skin should look hydrated, not shiny or greasy. Over-moisturizing can "suffocate" the pores and lead to ink loss or breakouts.

4. CRITICAL RESTRICTIONS (First 14 Days)

To protect the technical integrity of your artwork, the following restrictions are mandatory during the first two weeks:

  • No Submerging: No swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas, lakes, or baths. Quick showers are safe.
  • No Sun Exposure: Keep the tattoo out of direct sunlight and tanning beds. Once fully healed, always use a high-SPF sunscreen to prevent fading.
  • No Interference: The tattoo may itch or peel like a sunburn. Do not scratch or pick at scabs, as this will permanently remove pigment.
  • No Intense Exercise: Avoid activities that cause excessive sweating or friction against the tattooed area.

PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANCE

It is normal for the tattoo to appear dull or "cloudy" during the second week as new skin regenerates over the ink. However, if you experience excessive redness, localized heat, or persistent swelling, please contact the studio immediately.
